What causes matting?
Greasy skin and coat combined with natural shedding causes matting. Once a small knot, tangle or mat forms, it grows very quickly. If left, it can become an overall pelt. The only real defense against knots, tangles and mats is regular bathing and drying done by a professional cat groomer who truly knows what they are doing.
But my cat grooms itself, why does my cat need to be groomed?
Cats have skin and hair much like ours. It's constantly growing and shedding the old hairs. It's skin secretes natural oils that coat the hairs and give it that nice kitty shine. Additionally they have two layers of skin, the dead skin flakes off and causes dandruff. In turn the dead hairs, oily skin and dandruff form into clumps that turn into knots, tangles and mats and if left for a long time they can eventually become a pelt. Even a short haired cat can get mats! This is painful for your cat and causes extreme discomfort.
Cats hate water.
Not all of them hate it, some of them really enjoy the process. They certainly know that they look really good when they are done with their at the spa.
My cat doesn’t clean his back end what can you do to alleviate that?
We can give him a degreasing bath and give him a sani-clip that will help alleviate a messy hind end. This can be a real problem with senior cats, overweight cat and cats with arthritis. We regularly bath cats that have a weight problem and "hind end" issues. It keeps them clean and odor free.
I don’t want my cat to have a lion cut can you help.
With regular grooming every six to eight weeks we can keep your kitty clean and mat free. Or I can make your long haired cat a short haired cat by giving him or her a clipper haircut.
My cat has litter stuck in his toes.
We can do a toe tuft trim so that he doesn’t have litter stuck to his toes.
I’m afraid my cat is going to claw my new leather couch.
Soft paws are the answer! They are a safe rubber cap that fits right over the nail, we can do all of them or just the fronts.
Regular nail trimming also helps keep your cat from doing real damage to the furniture.
Help! My Aunt is coming she’s allergic to cats.
Every time your cat licks itself, it coats the “dander” allergen all over it's hair. Two kinds can be the culprit The most common of the allergens are the glycoprotein Fel-d-1 which is secreted by your cat's sebaceous (oil) glands (Up the spine and down the tail) and Fel-d-4, which is in your cats saliva. Allergic reactions are usually characterized by coughing, itching, nasal congestion, rash, watery eyes, sneezing, and other good stuff. A good bath with top quality shampoo will take care of the dander which is what causes the allergies.
The blow dry and comb out removes most of the mats and tangles and leaves your pet clean and mostly allergy free for favorite relatives visit.
Hair balls are a problem can you help?
Yes we can de-shed your cat. Regular maintenance will keep him or her from having hairballs. But it is important to be on a regular schedule.
Do cats like getting a bath?
Contrary to popular belief, most cats do not mind being bathed. In fact, many are very calm during the bathing process and seem to find it relaxing. We use special techniques to introduce a cat to the bathing process each time, until we can see that they are used to it. We know from experience that cat owners report they have a very happy cat after it returns home from a day at the spa.
How Do you dry the cats?
I use a variety of methods to dry your cat. For some cats that can't tolerate the loud noise of the dryer, I lap dry by hand with a dryer set on low.
For those that can tolerate a higher level volume of air they may be in the catty shack which is a system for drying cats that is safe for your cat.
Some cats such as a Sphynx Just needs a towel dry.
